We are building the energy grid of the future.
For a secure supply.
Thyssengas is a child of the Ruhr region. Our company was founded here more than 100 years ago. We have always been a partner to industry and SMEs by ensuring a reliable energy supply via our long-distance pipeline network.
Around six billion cubic metres of natural gas are currently delivered to consumers every year - in particular to municipal utilities, industrial plants and power stations. Thyssengas therefore plays an important role in the energy supply. Back then with coke oven gas, today mainly with natural gas and biogas.

Now we are taking the next step:
With a view to security of supply and achieving climate targets, we are committed to ensuring that hydrogen and other green gases also flow through our pipelines in the near future. That's why we will gradually switch the pipeline network to H2 transport in the coming years and build new pipelines where necessary. The aim is to become one of the leading network operators for hydrogen and other green gases in Germany and to actively drive forward the energy transition.
The centrepiece of a Germany-wide hydrogen infrastructure is the hydrogen core network - also known as the "hydrogen highways". The H2 core network is the result of a joint effort by the industry. The course for the hydrogen infrastructure was set in dialogue with politicians: It is intended to connect the major hydrogen consumption and production regions in Germany and thus forms the basic framework of the Germany-wide H2 infrastructure. By 2032, the transmission system operators are to realise the approximately 9,040-kilometre-long H2 core network. As part of the H2 core network, we are involved in 35 new construction and conversion projects with a total of around 1,100 kilometres of pipeline.

Who is Thyssengas H2 GmbH?
Thyssengas H2 GmbH is building and operating the hydrogen transport network currently under construction in the North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony region. With the approval of the hydrogen core network by the Federal Network Agency in accordance with Section 28q EnWG of 22 October 2024, it is designated as the company responsible for the construction of this hydrogen transport network of around 545 kilometres and is the contact for further hydrogen expansion projects of around 503 kilometres. Thyssengas H2 GmbH is the regulated hydrogen transport network operator in the Thyssengas Group based on the approval of the Federal Network Agency. Thyssengas H2 GmbH uses Thyssengas GmbH, which contributes its many years of expertise in the construction and operation of gas networks, as well as third-party service providers for the construction and subsequent operation of its hydrogen transport network.
