Mobile pump-over compressors to reduce emissions

With the transition to hydrogen and other green gases, sustainability is gradually moving to the centre of our business model. As a transporter of natural gas, however, we are already doing everything we can to measure our greenhouse gas emissions as accurately as possible, to report them transparently and, in particular, to avoid or at least significantly reduce them.

To this end, we are also investing in technical solutions such as our mobile transfer compressors. We not only use these ourselves for maintenance work on our network, but also make them available to other network operators.

Environmentally conscious maintenance

If work is required on the gas transport network, it is essential that the respective systems are gas-free. To prevent the gas from escaping into the environment, the use of mobile compressors is a sensible and often easy-to-implement technical measure. The advantage: while the gas would be released into the atmosphere in a controlled manner if it were simply blown out, the transfer compressor transfers the gas from one system to another network, for example, where it can then be reused. The result: evacuation of the respective pipeline sections to a technical minimum and significantly lower emissions of climate-damaging methane.

At Thyssengas, we rely on a flexible solution for this process: our compact, mobile compressors. These can be transported quickly and flexibly to their locations using car trailers in order to carry out pumping operations for maintenance and repair work on gas systems or pipelines with minimal effort. The gas in entire pipeline sections, large containers, pigging sluices and other gas-carrying systems can be drained effectively and in an environmentally friendly manner and the pressure reduced to very low levels. Our compressors are currently suitable for operation with both natural gas and biomethane.

Our service

We not only use our mobile compressors for our own maintenance work, but also make them available to other network operators. The hire of a mobile compressor system, including equipment such as flanges, connection hoses and a power unit, includes the following components:

  • Technical advice
  • Transport of the mobile compressor unit to and from the installation site
  • On-site appointment at the installation location
  • Commissioning and decommissioning by Thyssengas
  • Monitored operation by Thyssengas

Performance promise:

  • Evacuation of the CH4 quantities to a minimum residual pressure level
  • Thermal conversion of the residual quantities using other technologies (e.g. mobile flare)
  • Monitoring of the entire process by Thyssengas

Added value:

  • Avoidance of methane emissions
  • Compliance with legal requirements
  • Cost savings and increased performance

FAQ

Our type 1 compressors have the following connections:

  • EO 28L
  • 1" ANSI 600 RF flange

Our type 2 compressors have the following connections:

  • EO 12S
  • ½" cylindrical ISO external thread

Other connections are available on request. Please contact us for your individual requirements.

Please first send your enquiry to Michael Gertz (michael.gertz@thyssengas.com, +49 2361 95731 4244). Together you will arrange an on-site appointment to discuss the details of your requirements. You will then receive a quotation from us. The work will then be carried out after your signature and at the mutually agreed time.

During an appointment on site, we can get a precise picture of the operating conditions and plan for any obstacles in advance, as not every job is carried out under the same conditions. This enables us to ensure that the work is carried out without complications.

No, our operating personnel will take care of all the activities required for compressor deployment. This is included in our offer.

The following tasks are undertaken by you as the client:

  • Creation of a suitable site access road
  • Provision of a level parking area for the operation, if necessary creation of an installation plan
  • Pressure protection certificate for upstream and downstream network
  • Work permits and authorisations for installation and operation
  • If necessary, provision of a security service (site security) to secure the construction site (if the construction site is not located on a fenced-in area)
  • If necessary, coordination with authorities, supervisory institutions
  • Sanitary facilities if necessary
  • If necessary, switch off cathodic corrosion protection
