The company
What is Thyssengas?
Thyssengas is a transmission system operator that has been ensuring the reliable supply of gas to municipal utilities, industrial plants and power stations in western Germany for over 100 years. The core part of our grid, which has approximately 4,400 kilometres of gas pipelines in total, is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia - we are thus one of the leading transmission system operators in Germany. For decades, our employees, who number more than 550, at seven locations - with our headquarters in Dortmund -, have been focusing on natural gas transportation. However, we are now facing the biggest transformation in our company's history as we prepare our grid, step by step, for the transmission of hydrogen and other green gases.
About us
We transport energy
Thyssengas is deeply rooted in the Ruhr region – this is where our history began over 100 years ago. In this region we have always been a reliable partner for large industries as well as for small and medium-sized businesses. Our high-performance transmission grid supplies municipal utilities, industrial plants and power stations with around six billion cubic metres of natural gas every year. Simultaneously, we are driving forward the transition to a climate-neutral future by gradually converting our system to transport hydrogen and other green gases and, if necessary, expanding it. We are thus actively helping to shape the energy transition.
Responsibility
It goes beyond the mere pipeline
The days of natural gas are numbered. The transition to sustainable energy sources is the key to a future-ready economy and to achieving our climate targets. As a transmission system operator we believe this, too, and that is why we are placing our future focus on the transportation of hydrogen and other green gases. In doing so, we are taking responsibility for the energy transition and a climate-neutral future.
