H2-Cluster Cologne

Many well-known chemical and industrial companies are based in the greater Cologne area. They are united by a high energy demand and thus a great potential for CO2 savings. We are connecting the Cologne cluster to the Zevenaar border crossing point (Netherlands) and the cluster of the GET H2 initiative to ensure that the hydrogen required for this is available in a timely manner. With the planned north-south corridor between Wilhelmshaven and Wesseling, we want to bring hydrogen from the North Sea coast directly to the Rhineland - right to our doorstep, so to speak.

In addition, decommissioned power plant sites that are still in operation could be used for local hydrogen and energy production - they offer potential areas for future H2-ready power plants and electrolysers. Cologne also has the opportunity to convert a large part of its district heating supply to hydrogen.
