Westnetz and Thyssengas renew gas pipelines in Recklinghausen

- Gas pipes are being relocated in the run-up to the bridge renovation - Restrictions in the construction site area on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße - Work expected to take ten weeks

The upcoming renovation work on the bridge body in the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße area by the district of Recklinghausen will make it necessary to relocate the existing gas pipes that run underneath the bridge body.

For this reason, the distribution network operators Westnetz and Thyssengas are renewing the existing overhead gas lines underneath the bridge in the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße area and laying the lines underground. The new high-pressure pipeline from Thyssengas and the new low-pressure pipeline from Westnetz will be pulled into the ground using a flush drilling process. To do this, steel pipes have to be laid in the ground over a length of around 265 metres in advance. In order to minimise the restrictions, the pipes of both companies will be relocated in a single construction project.

The work will take place on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße between house number 50 and approximately the junction with Stuckenbuschstraße. To pull in the new gas pipes, a starting excavation pit is required under the bridge at number 40 and a finishing excavation pit in the area of number 50. In order to connect the new gas pipes to the existing gas network, a small amount of further civil engineering work will then be necessary in the area of the cycle path.

From Monday, 7 October 2024, there will be traffic restrictions in the construction site area. On Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, the pavement on the side of the construction site, i.e. out of town, can still be used. Cycle traffic, on the other hand, will be diverted. The alternative route is via Rietstraße and Allee des Wandels. From there, Friedrich-Ebert-Straße can be crossed at the traffic lights. Cycle traffic will be routed via the cycle path on the opposite carriageway as far as Spanenkampstraße on the corner of Lise-Meitner-Straße. Appropriate traffic guidance will be signposted on site. The work is expected to take ten weeks. Both companies ask for your understanding for the resulting disruption.
