Transmission system operator Thyssengas carries out pipeline construction work in the Wästertal recreation area

From Monday, 29 January 2024, the transmission system operator Thyssengas will be carrying out pipeline construction work in the Wästertal local recreation area. The reason for this measure is the flushing of a total of three connecting pipelines during flooding events in the summer and autumn of last year. These sections of pipeline are now to be inspected and appropriate measures implemented. The work will take around two and a half months in total.

As the area and the pipelines located there are a local recreation area, the company endeavours to keep the restrictions on nature and the environment as low as possible. For this reason, all measures will be taken as part of an overall programme.

In connection with the upcoming work, the pipeline sections will be temporarily taken out of service. This has no impact on the supply of natural gas in the region, which is guaranteed at all times. In addition to the decommissioning of the pipeline, the remaining gas volume will be controlled and burnt in a climate-friendly manner using a mobile flare system. The flaring activity will become necessary during the course of construction and will be the subject of separate communication.

Apart from a temporary increase in the number of construction site vehicles, the measure will have no impact on road traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists may have to expect minor restrictions.

The planning and implementation of the measures will be carried out in close consultation with representatives of the district of Soest and the landowners of the local recreation area. Thyssengas asks for your understanding for the resulting inconvenience.
