Transmission system operator Thyssengas carries out work to secure a natural gas pipeline in Warstein

The company Thyssengas is currently carrying out work to secure a natural gas pipeline at two locations in Warstein. On the one hand, construction is underway in Haarweg. The pipeline network operator had already started preparatory construction work at the end of October (see press release dated 18 October 2024). The aim of the construction work is to install an additional valve, i.e. a shut-off device, on the gas pipeline running there.

At the same time, work is being carried out around one and a half kilometres further south on the Möhne. Here, the same gas pipeline crosses the riverbed underground. A section of the pipeline in this area had been washed free due to flooding. The section that had been washed free had recently become larger - partly due to the current high water levels.

In the short term, a construction road to the Möhne and a construction site for machinery and materials will be set up near the Welschenbeck estate. Various safety measures are currently being carried out on site in the river bed in order to provide the best possible protection for the affected pipeline in its existing route.

Parallel to the measures described above, Thyssengas is planning to set up a temporary transport connection to another gas pipeline in order to secure the supply even if the affected pipeline fails. At the same time, this "bypass" would allow the section of pipeline that has been flushed out of the Möhne riverbed to be relocated to an alternative route. The company is also in close dialogue with the town of Warstein and the relevant authorities about this. Thyssengas will provide further information as soon as the plans have been finalised.

All measures are being carried out in close consultation with the relevant authorities.
