The Lower Rhine region between Emmerich, Xanten, Wesel, Voerde and Duisburg is home to numerous energy and emissions-intensive companies. They want to use green hydrogen to complete the transformation to sustainability in the coming years. For us at Thyssengas, the region is therefore a high priority for the development of an integrated H2 transport infrastructure based on our H2 network. We know the local conditions well, after all we have been operating our long-distance gas pipelines here for decades and want to supply consumers from industry and SMEs in the Lower Rhine cluster with hydrogen in the near future.
To this end, we are planning a connection to the Zevenaar border crossing point (Netherlands), the hydrogen cluster of the GET H2 initiative and the H2 storage facility in Xanten. We are also involved in the EcoPort 813 initiative to enable the connection of inland ports along the Rhine. At the same time, we are working on integrating the planned electrolysers and hydrogen-capable gas-fired power plants in the Rheinberg, Voerde and Duisburg triangle into the planned H2 network. We are also planning a connection to the H2 north-south corridor between Wilhelmshaven and Cologne, which we want to realise together with Gasunie.
