Voerde-Walsum H2 pipeline: Thyssengas prepares planning approval procedure for new hydrogen pipeline on the Lower Rhine and organises dialogue markets

The transmission system operator Thyssengas is building a central transport route for the hydrogen supply of tomorrow on the Lower Rhine: the construction of a hydrogen pipeline around eight kilometres long is planned between Voerde and Duisburg-Walsum, which is due to go into operation at the end of 2027.

The new pipeline is part of the Germany-wide hydrogen core network. The connection to the central transport corridor from the Netherlands will give the region a forward-looking supply perspective - both for industry and for medium-sized companies and distribution network operators.

In mid-2024, the responsible authority confirmed that a spatial impact assessment would not be required. The project team is now preparing the planning approval procedure, which is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Thyssengas relies on proactive and personal dialogue with municipalities, authorities and the public when implementing its pipeline construction projects. In July, the company is offering two public dialogue markets for the Voerde-Walsum hydrogen pipeline.

The events offer all interested parties the opportunity to gain an overview of the current planning of the project and to talk to Thyssengas experts at the themed islands. The dialogue markets will take place on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, 08.07.25 from 6 p.m. in the Kathrin-Türks-Halle (Althoffstraße 2, 46535 Dinslaken)
  • Wednesday, 09.07.25 from 6 pm in the Kathrin-Türks-Halle (Althoffstraße 2, 46535 Dinslaken)

Registration is not required and refreshments will be provided.
