During the civil engineering work, minor damage to the Thyssengas pipeline was discovered, the cause of which is still being investigated. The work to repair the pipeline and the subsequent backfilling of the excavation pit will continue today and next week (week 37). The full closure of Mühlenstraße (from the junction at the corner of Marktstraße to the junction at the corner of Albert-Schweitzer-Straße) will also remain in place for this period. Residents will still be able to reach their homes. The region will continue to be supplied with natural gas via alternative pipeline routes.
05 September 2024 Gas detection during a routine check on a natural gas pipeline in Siersdorf (municipality of Aldenhoven)
Gas was detected during a routine inspection of a Thyssengas natural gas pipeline. As a result, the affected section of pipeline in the area of Mühlenstr. 2 was taken out of service in order to determine the cause. The region continues to be supplied with natural gas via alternative pipeline routes.
This is a precautionary measure. It is currently still unclear whether the detected gas actually comes from the Thyssengas natural gas pipeline.
The decommissioning requires the pipeline to be depressurised, which is associated with a corresponding noise development. Natural gas is released in a controlled manner. Once the pipeline has been depressurised, Thyssengas will carry out civil engineering work to check the pipeline section more closely. The civil engineering work will result in a full closure of Mühlenstraße from the junction at the corner of Marktstraße to the junction at the corner of Albert-Schweitzer-Straße. Residents will still be able to access their homes.
