Thyssengas Dialogue #04 on 19 May 2025 at the Dortmunder U

"Between new beginnings and uncertainty: How do we climb the next stage towards the H2 ramp-up?" Under this motto, the fourth edition of our Thyssengas Dialogue will take place on Monday, 19 May 2025.

Modernes Backsteingebäude der Thyssengas-Zentrale in Dortmund am Dortmunder U bei sonnigem Wetter.

The vision of a hydrogen economy is becoming reality: the first projects along the value chain have been launched - and with the approval of the H2 core network in October 2024, the starting signal has been given for the development of the urgently needed transport infrastructure. We transmission system operators have started and are working on building the grid!

But the road ahead remains rocky. Despite this progress, the development of the H2 ramp-up is stalling: decisions are being postponed, investments are stagnating and players along the value chain are acting cautiously. Production, infrastructure and demand are not yet optimally interlinked. There is a risk of weakening halfway - a risk that we cannot afford from either an economic or climate policy perspective.

At this year's Thyssengas Dialogue, we want to shed light on this area of tension from various perspectives. Where do we stand? What hurdles are slowing down the ramp-up? And how can we make the next few metres towards the H2 ramp-up?

Since its premiere in 2022, the Thyssengas Dialogue has provided a platform that brings together all relevant stakeholders on the topic of hydrogen, clearly identifies challenges and identifies solutions. This year, we were once again able to attract high-calibre speakers from politics, industry and the energy sector for presentations, interviews and discussion panels:

  • Sopna Sury, Chief Operating Officer Hydrogen, RWE Generation SE
  • Rafael Gralla, Head of Network Development Hydrogen/Gas Transport Networks, Federal Network Agency
  • Michael Theben, Head of Climate Protection Department, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia
  • Nina Scholz, Country Manager Germany, Equinor
  • Fabian Weber, Low Carbon Solutions, Equinor
  • Hans Gennen, Chief Operating Officer, Currenta
  • Axel Pompe, Head of Business Unit Energy, Currenta
  • Wilfried Klein, Director Net Zero Infrastructure & Cluster Development Europe, LyondellBasell
  • Julian Reul, Programme Lead - Research, H2Global Foundation

Our Managing Director Dr Thomas Gößmann and our experts Jan Eisenberg and David Janoschka will be on stage for Thyssengas. The programme will be moderated by Christian Seelos.

The event will take place in Dortmund with invited guests. The livestream will be freely accessible to all interested parties on this website from 3 p.m. on 19 May: https://www.thyssengasdialog.com/
