Ruhr Valley pipeline project: Transmission system operator Thyssengas carries out pipeline construction work in Meschede-Freienohl - surface restoration work starts on Hauptstraße

On Monday, 13 May 2024, the transmission system operator Thyssengas will begin the previously announced restoration of the road surface on Hauptstraße and Breiter Weg in Meschede-Freienohl. The work is related to the "Ruhrtalleitung" project and marks the completion of the pipeline construction work carried out in this section in 2023.

In order to minimise restrictions for road traffic, the work will be carried out in several sections. In total, the work will take around six weeks and, according to current planning, should be completed by the end of June. Large-scale diversions from the Arnsberg and Meschede directions will be set up and signposted for the entire duration of the construction work. Residents' properties in the respective sections can still be reached on foot. Bus traffic will be routed via Konrad-Adenauer-Straße for the entire duration of the project. In the Alte Wiese / Konrad-Adenauer-Straße area, a replacement stop will be set up for the bus stop on Hauptstraße. For this reason, no-stopping zones will be necessary on both sides of Konrad-Adenauer-Straße.

Section 1: Hauptstraße 85

The first construction phase will begin on Monday, 13.05.2024. Hauptstraße will be fully closed over a length of approx. 430 metres from house number 85 to the Urbanusstraße junction. Urbanusstraße will remain passable for residents. A total of two weeks are planned for the work in this section. A diversion will be signposted.

Section 2: Urbanusstraße junction

The second construction phase follows on from the end of the first construction phase and extends over a length of approx. 200 metres up to and including Krummestraße. Residents can reach Krummestraße via Bergstraße. The corresponding diversion will be signposted. A total of approx. two weeks are planned for this section.

Section 3: Krummestrasse

The third section of this measure begins behind the Krummestraße junction and extends over a length of approx. 260 metres up to the "Hohe Fohr" and "Auf dem Mühlenberg" junctions. During this construction phase, the surface in Pestalozzistraße will be restored. Overall, the work in this section will take around one and a half weeks.

Section 4: Hohe Fohr / Auf dem Mühlenberg

The fourth construction section begins directly in front of the junctions of the streets "Hohe Fohr" and "Auf dem Mühlenberg" and extends for approx. 120 metres to Breite Weg at house number 27. For the duration of the work, which will last approx. one week, the two streets mentioned ("Hohe Fohr" and "Auf dem Mühlenberg") will not be accessible via the main road. Residents can reach this area via the streets "Bergstraße" or "Friedhofsweg".

Section 5: Breiter Weg 27

The final construction section extends for 40 metres in the area of "Breiter Weg 27" to the "Im Ohl" junction. The road no longer needs to be fully closed for this section. The road will be closed on one side for one week (alternating between the southern and northern carriageways). Traffic and buses will be able to travel alongside the roadworks. According to the current planning status, the measure will be completed on 25 June 2024 and marks the end of the construction work and surface restoration in this section.

The planning and implementation of the measures are being carried out in close coordination with representatives of the district and university town of Meschede, Straßen.NRW and all other responsible authorities. Thyssengas asks for your understanding for the resulting inconvenience. The measure described is related to the Ruhr Valley pipeline project.

About the Ruhrtal pipeline project

Due to increased capacity requirements, Thyssengas GmbH has been expanding its gas transport system in the Wickede / Arnsberg / Meschede region - the so-called Ruhr Valley pipeline - since 2018. The existing pipeline system is being modernised in several construction phases, increasing transport capacity in the process. The Ruhrtal pipeline will supply the downstream networks of the local municipal utilities as well as numerous large consumers such as industrial companies and power plants with gas. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2026.
