Emsbüren-Dorsten H2 pipeline Hydrogen from the North Sea to the Ruhr region - Thyssengas develops preferred corridor for hydrogen pipeline and organises dialogue markets

Between Emsbüren in Lower Saxony and Dorsten in North Rhine-Westphalia, Thyssengas is realising a section of the major north-south corridor for the hydrogen supply of tomorrow by 2030. The new Emsbüren-Dorsten hydrogen pipeline will connect Emsland with the Ruhr region and provide the necessary hydrogen transport capacity from the coast to the Ruhr region. The project has now reached a key milestone with the start of the spatial impact assessment for the section in North Rhine-Westphalia in the third quarter of 2025. Once the spatial impact assessment has been completed, a route corridor around 600 metres wide will be determined in which the pipeline will later be built. In Lower Saxony, it was possible to dispense with a spatial impact assessment. At the same time, the company has begun preparatory work for the planning approval procedures in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.

Thyssengas relies on proactive and direct dialogue for the successful implementation of pipeline construction projects. The company is therefore organising four public dialogue markets for the Emsbüren-Dorsten H2 pipeline project in May.

The dialogue markets for the project will take place

  • on 08.05.25 in the Bürgerhalle Coesfeld (Osterwicker Straße 1, 48653 Coesfeld),
  • on 22.05.25 at Treffpunkt Altstadt Dorsten (Auf der Bovenhorst 9, 46282 Dorsten),
  • on 27.05.25 at Landgasthof Evering (Landstraße 24, 48488 Emsbüren) and
  • on 28.05.25 in the Bürgerhalle Wettringen (Unter den Linden 6a, 48493 Wettringen)

both starting at 6 pm. Registration is not required.

The events offer the opportunity to get an overview of the current planning of the project and to talk to the experts from Thyssengas at the topic islands.

Please find attached a map showing the expected application corridor as well as two other alternative route corridors with planning status Q2/2025.
