Fire develops in the area of a long-distance pipeline in Herne - Thyssengas carries out investigations

26.08.2024, 10 a.m.: On Sunday, 25.08.2024, a fire broke out in the area of the protective strip above an underground Thyssengas gas pipeline in Herne. The fire spread over a small grass and green area of around 1-1.5 square metres on a footpath near the Vossnacken road. A quantity of gas that had escaped for unknown reasons had ignited at this location.

Thyssengas immediately secured the pipeline by closing the valves and depressurising it. The fire brigade and relevant authorities were informed immediately. The fire brigade arrived promptly at the scene of the incident. There was no danger of personal injury at any time.

After the fire was extinguished in a controlled manner following depressurisation and safety measures by the fire brigade, the pipeline was uncovered shortly afterwards. Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing.

The gas supply in the region is not jeopardised and is being ensured by alternative pipeline systems.
