The transmission system operator Thyssengas is planning to build a hydrogen pipeline approximately eight kilometres long between Voerde and Duisburg-Walsum. The project is currently undergoing the planning approval process. In connection with the approval process, preparatory work is currently taking place, including surveying and the installation of marker posts. Information on this was already published in June 2026 via a local notice in the Official Gazette of the City of Duisburg. As part of the preparatory work, tree felling is also necessary to make the affected areas accessible for the upcoming surveys. Work will commence on Thursday, 5 November 2026, near Römerstraße between the Duisburg-Walsum power station and an allotment garden.
Tree felling will be kept to the absolute minimum. The work will be carried out in accordance with the permits granted and in close consultation with the relevant authorities. Thyssengas asks for your understanding regarding any inconvenience caused.
With the planned Voerde–Walsum hydrogen pipeline, Thyssengas is working in the Lower Rhine region to establish a central transport route for the future Germany-wide hydrogen supply. By connecting to a central transport corridor from the Netherlands, the region gains an important prospect for the future supply of hydrogen – for industry and small and medium-sized enterprises as well as for distribution network operators. The pipeline is scheduled to come into operation at the end of 2028.
