H2 project information: Thyssengas pipeline connects Rheinberg to the hydrogen network

Transmission system operator Thyssengas is connecting producers and import points for hydrogen in NRW with the regional distribution grids and large end consumers from industry and SMEs. In Rheinberg, the company is building an H2 pipeline system around seven kilometres long by the end of 2027.

With the realisation of such local H2 pipeline construction projects, Thyssengas is ensuring that the hydrogen from the emerging H2 core network is also available locally. In future, Rheinberg is to be supplied via the Xanten-Walsum H2 pipeline system.

Project manager Marvin Zwillus comments on the status of the project: "We want to start the planning approval process for the new section between Wallach and Hohfeld in 2025. At the same time, we are already planning to convert the existing pipeline section between Hohfeld and Ossenberg to transport hydrogen. We are making good progress!"
