Thyssengas carries out flaring activities in Neuenhaus

The transmission system operator Thyssengas is carrying out work on a natural gas pipeline between Hoogsteede-Kalle and Neuenhaus. In connection with this work, it will be necessary to depressurise and degas the pipeline. As Thyssengas has set itself the goal of reducing the methane emissions associated with such measures as far as technically possible, a large proportion of the gas in the pipeline has already been transported via downstream networks.

In the week from 03.11-09.11.2025 (week 45), the remaining volume will then be evacuated using a mobile flare system. This will result in increased noise emissions and a visible flame on these days. The flare system is located on the fenced-in station site in Rotkehlchenstraße in Neuenhaus.

The planning and implementation of the measure will be carried out in close consultation with representatives of the town of Neuenhaus. The local authorities and neighbouring residents were informed about the project in advance.

The measure is connected to the Vlieghuis-Ochtrup hydrogen pipeline. We are realising the first cross-border hydrogen pipeline between the Netherlands and Germany by 2027. To this end, we are converting the natural gas pipeline between Vlieghuis and Ochtrup with a length of around 53 kilometres to transport hydrogen.
