Thyssengas Ausbildung

There is only one first step.

With an apprenticeship at Thyssengas, your career will be off to a good start.

Thyssengas – progress for the energy sector of tomorrow.

Thyssengas GmbH is an independent company that operates a gas transmission network responsible principally for the transportation of natural gas, but also of biogas. Our customers are energy suppliers from home and abroad who want to supply German customers with natural gas.
These include, for example, industrial operations, power plants and also municipal utilities. The latter receive gas from our network and pipe it over their own distribution networks to cover the last few kilometres to private users in their own homes.

We are the carrier, transporting the gas over long distances. Every year, we transmit up to 10 billion cubic metres of gas over our 4,200-kilometre-long underground network to its destination, safely and in an environmentally friendly manner. In this way we ensure that the important energy source, gas, is available around the clock. Without this complex but extremely reliable system, energy supply to North Rhine-Westphalia would be impossible.

In short: At Thyssengas, you will work together with around 330 specialists every day to ensure security of supply for our country.

So that this remains secure in the future, and that the transition towards a climate-friendly energy sector succeeds, we are working on concrete and innovative concepts. Perhaps you have already heard of power-to-gas technology. With this, our network will become a giant store for energy derived from the sun and the wind. At the same time, we are planning pilot projects to allow a change to take place from natural gas, a fossil fuel, to the hydrogen-based world of tomorrow. In this way, we will become the backbone of the energy revolution. For all this, we need young, motivated people like you. Take a look at our exciting range of apprenticeships and become part of our team!

Opportunities for apprentices.

The first step of your career is the most important. With us, you have the opportunity to complete a high-quality apprenticeship. And you can choose between:

It will be exciting – we promise.

Your apprenticeship as an industrial business management assistant.

During your training, you will alternate between theoretical and practical phases. The vocational school will give you theoretical knowledge, while with us, you move through the various different departments. This will let you apply the theory in direct practical situations.

As an industrial clerk, you will be deployed by us as a commercial all-rounder. For example, in our purchasing department, you will learn how to invite offers, compare them and reach a decision. In accounting, you will monitor transactions and apply cost planning and control instruments. In our HR department, you will discover how to determine personnel requirements, work out the payroll for the employees and find out how to organise a job advertisement.

Training takes place largely at our main administrative headquarters in Dortmund.

Additionally, you will take block teaching at the Konrad-Klepping-Berufskolleg (vocational school).

Our apprenticeships always start on the 1st August and last three years. They can be shortened to two-and-a-half years if desired.

This is what you should bring:

  • Interest in commercial matters and processes
  • Enjoyment in handling various IT programs (MS Office etc.)
  • Exact and careful working methods
  • Thirst for knowledge and enjoyment of entrepreneurial issues
  • Outgoing attitude and ability to work in a team

It is important to have good school qualifications, at least at the level of vocational college, with good marks in German, English and Maths.

Experience high-performance technology face-to-face.

Your apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic.

Do you like to tinker with your moped, or have you ever taken apart your PC out of curiosity? Then an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic is the right thing for you. During your training, you will alternate between theoretical and practical phases. You will gain theoretical knowledge at the Berufskolleg Essen West (vocational school). Then, in the various departments of our company, you will experience the essence of practical work and be able to apply the theory.

You will spend the first 18 months at our cooperative partner, Open Grid Europe GmbH, in Essen.

There you will learn the basics of metal processing: milling, turning, drilling, flame cutting, soldering and welding. Here, you will also be prepared for your intermediate and final exams.

After the basic training, you will come back to Thyssengas and get to know our operation and the various technical departments at our locations in Dortmund, Duisburg and Recklinghausen.

Our apprenticeships always start on the 1st August and last three-and-a-half years. They can be shortened to three years if desired.

This is what you should bring:

  • Enjoyment of maths and physics
  • Pleasure in repairing devices, plants and machines
  • Ability to work in a team

Good school results are important. You should at least have good lower secondary grades with good marks in maths and German.

Control up to 15,000 hp.

Your apprenticeship as a mechatronics engineer.

Here too, you will benefit from the interchange of theoretical education at the Berufskolleg Essen West and exciting practical training in the various departments of Thyssengas.

You will spend the first 18 months at our cooperative partner, Open Grid Europe GmbH, in Essen.

There, you will learn all the important basics of metalworking and electronics, gaining broad knowledge and abilities (e.g. the manufacture of mechanical parts, measurement of electrical quantities, programming of mechatronics systems, construction and testing of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, assembly of components and much more). You will also prepare for your intermediate and final exams.

Your course continues in Dortmund, Duisburg and Recklinghausen. Here, you will learn the functions of powerful plants such as our compressor stations. With up to 15,000 hp, they create massive pressure in the pipeline system.
